چکیده
An •mo•b•, Hartmanindia •astdlanii, which possesses many features typical of higher-order animal cells, was irradiated with 1-MHz ultrasound while suspended inordinary growth medium and in one with increased viscosity. The ultrasonically produced cavitation was monitored and a strong correlation is found between the number of discrete cavitation events occurring and the decrease in cell number% on irradiating at 515 W/cm • for 10 min. The growth of treated cells was also examined.

Degradation of DNA in high-intensity focused ultrasonic fields at 1 MHz.
Gassy and degassed aqueous solutions of DNA were treated ultrasonically while monitoring the field for discrate cavitation events. At irradiation intensities greater than about 500 W/cm 2, transient cavitation is shown to be responsible forthe observed reduction i molecular weight. At intensifies of200 to 288 W/cm 2, degradation of DNA was observed which did not depend upon transient cavitation.
متن کاملMeasurement of pressure and assessment of cavitation for a 22.5-kHz intra-arterial angioplasty device.
This study was performed to understand better the mechanisms of action of an (22.5 kHz) ultrasonic wire catheter device used to remove atheromatous plaque in diseased blood vessels (ultrasonic angioplasty). During a clinical procedure, the wire acts as an acoustic waveguide to transfer acoustic energy from a generator outside the body to the ball tip of the wire, which is inserted in the blood ...
متن کاملThe effect of low intensity dual frequency ultrasonic waves on the viability of the B16-F10 melanoma cell
In this study, the effect of single and dual-frequency sonication on cell death of B16-F10 melanoma cells is investigated at constant temperature. Here, 20 groups were studied. The test groups consisted of: control and sham, 40 kHz (intensity: 0.24 W/cm2), 1 MHZ (intensity: 0.5 W/cm2) and the dual frequency groups which each frequency group included seven subgroups of 30, 120, 60, 150, 300, 600...
متن کاملEvaluating the Effects of Dual Frequency Sonication Parameters on Acoustic Cavitation by Chemical Dosimeter Using Iodide
Background and Aims: Production of acoustic cavitation by sonication has been recently recommended as a targeted treatment. The experimental results from studies indicate that the activity of cavitation generated by bi- or multi-frequency ultrasound irradiation is higher than that caused by single frequency irradiation. In this study, effects dual (1 MHz and 40 kHz) and single frequency soni...
متن کاملUse of chemical dosimetry for comparison of ultrasound and ionizing radiation effects on cavitation.
A comparison of the effects of ultrasound produced by low- and high-frequency ultrasonic apparatuses upon biological systems is one of the basic problems when studying ultrasound cavitation effects. One possibility for how to compare these effects is the indirect method which uses well-known physical quantities characterizing the interaction of ionizing radiation with matter and which also conv...
